In October of 2013, we photographed a delicious wedding celebration at the rustic, chic Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was a crisp, sunny fall day
and the outdoor ceremony was sumptuously framed by rolling fields of grape vines and brilliant wild flowers. A golden sun set over the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains during the ceremony, providing some spectacular and unique lighting. A special thanks to Kimie for her efforts as support photographer, be sure to check out her excellent work here. And here are a few images from the wedding day story:

Clear skies allowed us the opportunity to do some long exposures to show the glorious stars shining above.

  2. Great images. I’ve been to Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards many times and you’ve really captured the subtle beauty of the lands, the sky, the rustic architecture. I like the energy of the photos – especially the candid ones.

  3. Amazeballs! I’m heading to Charlottesville next week. Would love to check out Pippin Hill. Looks like a lil’ slice o’ heaven. How long was the shutter exposure on the photos with the stars?
I like the long exposure of the dance floor, too.

  4. Wonderful visual storytelling. The Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard has really good food, too. Great place to relax and take in a sunset with a bottle o’ wine, dinner, and some friends. I’d say the star photos are shot on a tripod at somewhere between 40 sec and a minute. Just one man’s guess.

  5. Thanks for the nice comments, y’all! To answer your question, John, the star photos were made at 16mm, f/3.2 for 30 seconds. Tripod, for sure. Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard is a fantastic and beautiful place. It was a pleasure to photograph there. Cheers!
