According to the ISPWP website:

“The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers is a rarity among wedding photography organizations. Photographers cannot simply buy an ISPWP membership, they have to earn it.

“Our requirements are experience, talent, and professionalism. To be accepted, a photographer must have shot at least 50 weddings, submit their portfolio for review, agree to operate under the ISPWP Code of Conduct, and have an ISPWP Sponsor or four references. And THEN they have to be voted in by current members.

“In short, when you hire an ISPWP Photographer, you are hiring a talented veteran with a track record, peer recognition, and a passion for creating heirloom images of your wedding.”

Janelle and Bryan had a beautiful wedding celebration over Labor Day weekend at The W Hotel in downtown Washington, DC – just around the corner from the White House and Lafayette Square. Earlier in the Spring, I had the pleasure of getting to know Janelle and Bryan during an engagement photo shoot at the Tidal Basin near the National Mall in Washington. Here’s an image from our engagement shoot:

On Janelle and Bryan’s wedding day, I was assisted by second photographer – Alexis Glenn – and a special thanks to Alexis for her excellent work! We began photographing early in the day. We met Janelle and Bryan at the W hotel and documented them getting ready with family and friends. Janelle and her bridesmaids had a suite at the hotel where the talented and convivial Renny Vasquez provided makeup artistry.

I met Allegra in 2009 when I photographed her sister Marissa’s wedding at OMSI in Portland, OR. I’m honored to have been fortunate enough to photograph both Allegra and Marissa’s weddings – as their family and friends are a great group of folks. Kevin and Allegra had their wedding at the gorgeous Willamette Valley Vineyards, just south of Salem, OR.

It was a wonderful Fall day with rolling hills of ripening grapes as our backdrop. I was also extremely fortunate to be assisted by Katharine Kimball (2nd Photographer). We began photographing early in the afternoon, documenting Allegra and her bridesmaids getting ready and having their makeup done. After an outdoor ceremony, the celebration and dancing carried on well into the night. It was an amazing wedding to photograph (and the pinot noir was delicious!!!). Tara and Brian’s wedding is being featured on the ‘real green weddings’ section of the Green Bride Guide. The guide is a great website that is dedicated to promoting eco-friendly weddings. If you haven’t perused their website it’s well worth the adventure – the Green Bride Guide provides access to a wealth of information for the environmentally minded couple.

I had the great pleasure of getting to know Kendra and Jed in Washington, DC. We did an afternoon (engagement) photoshoot at their family home in NW DC. It was a great way to establish a connection between us and for Kendra and Jed to become more comfortable with my photography style. In New York, I photographed their rehearsal party at the River Club of New York on E 52nd on Friday evening. It was an intimate gathering under the auspice of a late summer harvest moon. Here is a photo of the moon rise over the East River:

I photographed with Kendra and Jed for the whole day on Saturday, their wedding day. They rented a suite at the Marriott Hotel on E 49th and Lexington and prepared for the wedding in a relaxed and convivial setting with their close friends and family. We hopped in a cab and crossed the river to The Foundry for the ceremony and reception. In all, it was a really beautiful wedding celebration and I’m so grateful to have been invited to document it with a photojournalistic flavor. Here are a few images from their story:

Julia and Chris had an international celebration on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The Combsberry Inn is a gorgeous 18th century estate and it was an ideal location for a summer wedding. Here are a few images from their story:

I was most fortunate to be in the great state of Oregon for a week during the steamy heatwave that blanketed Washington, DC (and most of the country) during mid-July. While in Oregon, I also had the great pleasure of photographing Ashley and Steven’s wedding at the Gray Gables Estate in Portland.

It was a wonderful celebration and here are a few images from their story:

Paula and Mark hosted an intimate wedding ceremony and reception on the rooftop of the Hudson Hotel amidst the towering skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan. This international celebration included family and friends from Great Britain and Europe and from around the U.S. The rooftop setting made for a very fascinating photo adventure and while the spring rain abounded, dancing and revelry carried on well in to the night. Here are a few images from their story:

Dawn and Kevin were married in a wonderful outdoor ceremony at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland. In addition to photographing with them for a full day at their wedding, I had the great pleasure of doing an engagement photoshoot with Dawn and Kevin at the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC earlier in the spring when the cherry trees were in full bloom. It was a really great opportunity to get to know each other and for Dawn and Kevin to become comfortable and familiar with my photography style. Here’s an image from their engagement shoot:

The ceremony was outdoors beneath the weeping branches of a stand of willow trees. And, the reception was held in a ballroom at the Turf Valley Resort. We also had the pleasure of working with talented wedding planner Felicity Carmody of Felicity C Weddings who did a great job of coordinating the day. Here’s a few images from Dawn and Kevin’s story:

Tara and Brian had a Spring wedding in Leesburg, Virginia at a beautiful farm set amidst rolling hills of deciduous forests and wide, open pastures. It was important to Tara and Brian to try and minimize the environmental impact of their celebration – and so many of their vendors and décor reflected that aesthetic. The farm is owned by their long time friends Jamie and Erin and their new baby Lily.

According to Tara, “we hand picked vintage wine glasses for each guest for decoration, use during the wedding and as favors for them to take home. We also shopped local vintage stores for depression-era glass vessels for flowers and old-fashioned candies. My necklaces were bought from vintage stores, too! Inside the tent, we used recycled paper poms as decorations along with thousands of white Christmas lights. Brian and I made homemade chalkboards which Brian’s Aunt and Mom decorated (they are both artists) to use as directional and décor signs (like the Moonshine signs).”

“For food, we chose FATgirl Catering” because of their mission to use “organic food products and to source locally as much of their produce and food as possible. Also, all of our cakes and desserts were homemade by my Mom and sister. Brian’s Mom, who is a professional potter, made the cake stands and they were given away to one person at each table. The moonshine, in blueberry, peach and apple-cinnamon, was homemade by a family member and brought as a gift from West Virginia.”
